Buying Lingerie as a Gift: How to Choose Size and Style

Lingerie makes a thoughtful present, but buying it for someone else can feel tricky. Size, style and comfort all matter. This guide covers how to choose a gift they will actually wear.

Work out their size first

  • Check what they already wear: the label on a favourite bra, brief or nightdress is the most reliable clue.
  • Use the brand's chart: sizes vary between brands, so compare against the chart on our size guides page.
  • Not sure of a bra size? Our guide to sister sizing explains how bra sizes relate to each other.

Easier gifts when you are unsure of size

Some styles are more forgiving than a fitted bra:

  • Robes and nightwear: often sized S/M, L/XL or similar, so they are easier to get right. Browse robes and nightwear.
  • Babydolls and chemises: loose, floaty shapes that do not need an exact fit. See babydolls and chemises.
  • Stockings and suspender belts: hosiery is sized by height and hip, and pairs well with a suspender belt. Browse stockings.

Think about their style, not yours

  • Notice the colours they wear most. Black, red and nude are popular, but their own favourites are a safer bet.
  • If they prefer comfort, choose soft fabrics and simple shapes over lots of straps.
  • For a confident, bolder look, lingerie sets and bodysuits make a statement.
  • Choose from the full size range: our plus size lingerie collection covers extended sizes.

Gifts on a budget

A gift does not need to be expensive. Start with our under £20 and under £30 collections, then add matching hosiery or a robe to build a set.
